Description

Turn east off Route 138 onto chemin de la Marina and head towards the beach campground and Pointe des Fortin beach. Here, capelin roll in springtime and, at the tip of the point, a set of stairs lead to a lookout that's perfect for snapping pictures. The Marina has a restaurant-bar with views of the St. Lawrence and Portneuf Rivers and a host of fishing boats. For outdoor lovers, there's a bike path as well as hiking, snowshoeing and snowmobile trails.

The Portneuf Sandbar is a natural hiking trail that's perfect for birdwatching, and marine mammal observation; it stretches for several kilometres and has been designated an Important Bird Area (IBA) by BirdLife International and the World Wildlife Fund classified it a high-value ecosystem. Be sure to check the tide schedule at the Visitor Information Centre before leaving for the sandbank. Schedule: June to October.
