The name Sheldrake comes from an old British word for the American merganser, also called a sawbill. Just before you reach the first village in the Minganie region, a road leads to a small hydroelectric generating station and a hiking trail. In early June at low tide, the nearby bridge is an ideal spot to go clamming. Keen photographers, and anyone who enjoys listening to the sound of the waves, will appreciate the views on Sheldrake beach.
