To reach this village, you must leave Route 138 and take the road that leads into town. Magpie, named after a bird that was mistakenly thought to be abundant in the region, was the largest cod fishing harbour in the region at the turn of the 20th century. Near the pier of the once-bustling harbour, a rest area leads to a rock formation forming a natural lookout and vantage point for whale watching. On the river is a 40-megawatt hydroelectric power plant, built to replace a 2-megawatt facility erected in 1958.
