The Camping du Château is located at the Pointe du Château, a beautiful historic site two kilometres away from the village of Port-Menier. The Camping offers five unserviced sites near a sanitary block. In this peaceful area, you can visit various historic attractions, such as the gravesite of the Sorcerer of Anticosti, Louis-Olivier Gamache, who was buried there after working as a keeper of provision depots for the Government of Canada from 1824 to 1854, the year of his death. Close by you will also find the remains of the foundations of the Villa Menier, which was built for Henri Menier, the famous chocolate maker, at the beginning of the last century. Not too far from the vestiges of the Villa, you can see the memorial site dedicated to Louis Jolliet. A commemorative plaque was installed there to mark the 300th anniversary of this illustrious figure’s arrival on our shores. Next to it stands a range lighthouse similar to the one that existed in the Menier era. This lighthouse has been a privileged witness of the island’s port operations and economic activities.
