Population 615 – This old fishing and trading post is home to French-speaking fishing families and an Innu First Nation community who have been living together in harmony for decades. The village’s name—Mingan—is Breton for “white stone.” The nearby Mingan River is part owned by the Innu Band Council of Ekuanitshit, which has been working since 1983 to restore the river and restock it with its primary resource—salmon. In the town center you'll find a church decorated entirely with Innu artwork. East of the bridge over the river, a road leading north 5 km provides access to a picnic and rest area.
