The Manicouagan region was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2007. Encompassing Baie-Comeau, the surrounding villages, and the entire backcountry north where boreal forest turns into taiga, Manicougan-Uapishka is one of the world’s largest Biosphere Reserves, covering 54 800 km2.  This prestigious designation honours and underlines the community’s will to build a model of belonging and sustainable development.  The region is part of an international network of 621 UNESCO designated sites in 117 countries. The RMBMU is proving itself to be collectively empowering, a reflection of the territory and an invitation to excellence, as well as social and business innovation.
