Anticosti island

Prepare for your adventure on Anticosti Island by booking in advance. Here are some tips for a smooth arrival:

Before you depart, check the opening hours of the Tourist Information Office to plan your arrival accordingly.

Upon arrival at the dock or airport, don't expect to be greeted by a shuttle service. However, your vehicle rental service will be ready to welcome you.

If you haven't made a reservation in advance and arrive outside of the tourist information office's opening hours, consider booking accommodation at the municipal campground of Château upon your arrival on the island.

Cellular reception is unreliable, if not nonexistent, on the island. It's best not to rely on it. However, you'll find free Wi-Fi available in several locations.

Dogs are not allowed on Anticosti.

The majority of roads are gravel. The preferred vehicle is a truck.

Camping is only permitted in designated areas on the island.

Plane or boat

Air Liaison provides flights to Port-Menier from the North Shore.

The shipping company Relais Nordik, which serves maritime transportation from Rimouski to the North Shore, Port-Menier, and the Lower North Shore.

Port-Menier village

Port-Menier is the main village on Anticosti Island, located on its northeast coast. With a population of around 200 inhabitants, it serves as the administrative center and primary entry point for visitors to the island. In the summer, nearly 8000 tourists visit the island. Established in the late 19th century, the village has a rich history tied to the island's economic activities, notably forestry and tourism. Today, it offers essential services such as accommodations, outfitters, and historic sites related to shipwrecks and the French chocolatier Henri Menier.
