Port-Cartier, to immerse yourself in nature and history.
The third largest city on the North Shore, between Baie-Comeau and Sept-Îles, is the most overlooked. Because on Route 138, most of the time people just pass through! Yet it's worth a detour: it's warm, active, family-oriented, and oriented towards outdoor activities and history.
A perfect family activity package
The entire city is easy to explore, on foot or by bike, which are the preferred means to appreciate its treasures. In the heart of the city, the Rivière aux Rochers cascades down, the sea is always within sight, and the islands are close by.
The secure Blue Network of trails for walkers, cyclists, and runners crisscrosses the city, on which no cars can park or circulate. It connects the 8 natural playground parks where children of all ages find challenges to overcome and a toy box.
Historical combo
The city's history is discovered at the Port-Cartier History Interpretation Centre, with a panoramic journey of 1500 photos and 100 years of history, from 1900 to the present day. With these large-format images and a continuous film, immerse yourself in the mining and logging sites of yesteryears, the daily life of pioneers, and traditions.
Continue on foot, by bike, or by car on the Heritage Circuit of Shelter Bay and Patterson Island in 8 stations where past and present converge. On Patterson Island, discover the facilities and machinery of the Quebec North Shore Paper Company, the company behind the municipality's origin.
And why not a trio, with a visit to the Louis-Langlois Museum in Pointe-aux-Anglais and the story of Admiral Walker's shipwreck!
Natural accommodation
With two municipal campsites, immersion in nature is still prioritized. Le Paradis offers the usual services. Rustic and intimate, Camping Patterson on the wooded island, bordered by the sea and the Rivière aux Rochers, welcomes self-sufficient campers, kayakers, and paddleboard enthusiasts.
The city offers an RV overnight stop for exploring caravaners on a road trip to park and easily wander around the city.
Are you captivated by the heart of the city? Stay a little longer... for the 11 km of sandy beaches!
Note:
