Description

From July 30 to August 4, the 40th edition of the Innu Nikamu festival ("he sings in Innu"), one of North America's largest indigenous music festivals, takes place. For six days, performances by musicians and performers from different backgrounds follow one another on three stages. This large-scale, alcohol-free family celebration brings together the different nations that meet or reunite here each year. That way, the organization hopes to maintain and perpetuate the tradition of large summer gatherings on the banks of the St. Lawrence river. The event is held on the bucolic site of the former Notre-Dame de Maliotenam residential school, transforming its heavy past into a place to celebrate a culture that refuses to die out.
